A letter from Edward Whymper to his fellow Alpine Club members detailing his recent correspondences with the Swiss Alpine Club. Particularly, Whymper writes at some length about the passing of Christian Almer, one of the greatest guides of the Golden Age of Alpinism. Whymper also writes about an obituary about Almer by W.A.B. Coolidge, and the words that Coolidge has written about Whymper himself. Coolidge and Whymper had a number of disagreements, however Whymper’s respect for Coolidge and his contributions can be seen throughout this small volume. 

Inserted are two small pamphlets labelled: The Alpine Club. Rules and List of Members, 1904 and 1907. Both are published by Spottiswoode and Co. The contents are titular: a list of rules followed by a list of the current (as of the time) members of the Alpine Club. One is tipped in and the other is loosely inserted.

First Edition. London: Privately Printed, 1900. Slim 8vo. Original softcover wrappers bound into maroon hardcover with gilt titling to cover and spine. [iv], 16pp. Very good. Harcover binding seems to have been done somewhat recently and is fine. Contents of original volume very good. Some toning to softcover wrappers. Front cover and first several pages creased vertically. Otherwise, contents clean and bright with very few markings. Two member pamphlets have some foxing, overall good, otherwise.
