He acted as a guide for many of history's most famous Alpine ascents, including with Conway, Fitzgerald, as well as the Workman's. A scarce volume, this was one of the first published accounts by a prominent mountaineering guide.
Bound in original red publisher's buckram. Lettered in gilt on cover and spine. Illustration of pickaxed stamped in black on cover. Upper edge gilt, other edges uncut. Early inscription on FFEP: "Rev. W. W. Hough, October 1st 1900." W. Williams signature in pencil. Blue owners stamp of "J. W. Diamond" and booksellers sticker for Foyle's on FBEP.
Overall condition: Excellent. Spine slightly faded, with some fading to gilt lettering. Some black markings to covers here and there. Contents in excellent condition. Very well preserved. Multiple stamps and inscriptions to endpapers at front and rear.
