This work briefly described Bonney's excursions during his four visits to Dauphiné. The 13 plates in the work are of illustrations drawn by Bonney himself.
First Edition. London: Longman, Green, Longman, Roberts, & Green, 1865. Large slim 8vo. Half red crushed Morocco and red cloth. Pages: xv, 52. 13 plates throughout.
Bound in half red crushed Morocco and red buckram, ruled in gilt at leather margins. Spine lettered and ruled in gilt with two raised bands. Upper edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Frontispiece shows map of Dauphiné region with Bonney's routes in red.
Very good. Binding presents in marvellous condition, tight and sturdy. Leather colour remains rich with a lovely shine. Some mild rubbing at spine extremities. Gilt remains bright and bold. Contents in excellent condition. Some foxing, mainly contained to preliminaries and rear contents. Original frontis tissue guard retained, albeit a little foxed. Ex-libris bookplate and W. Williams signature pencilled on first page. Paper fresh and bright. Plates clear. A lovely copy in a beautiful binding.
