Joyce was a veteran Antarctic explorer who served under both Scott and Shackleton. Prior to joining the Ross Sea Party, he participated in both Scott's Discovery Expedition and Shackleton's Nimrod Expedition.

Rebound in blue buckram, retaining original spine titling, refreshed endpapers.Ā Very good. Rebound in blue cloth. Binding tight and square, free of wear. Some very minor markings on cover. Contents have mild toning at edges. Some spotting here and there. Plates in excellent condition, some minor yellowing at edges. Otherwise, contents bright, clean, and in good order.
