Translated by Philip Walsh. Inscribed in ink and pencil by previous owners on the FFEP. The 'Pourquoi-Pas?' was later lost in the Arctic when her boilers exploded. All but one of the crew were killed, including Dr Charcot.

Original blue-green publisher's cloth. Spine lettered and ruled in gilt with illustration of penguin blocked in white. Cover title and stamped illustration of the 'Pourquoi-Pas' in gilt, double margins ruled in blind.Ā Very good. Some bumping and rubbing to spine head and foot, as well as cover corners. Age toning on endpapers and at page edges. Plates in excellent condition, very mild toning. Contents bright and clear, with only minor foxing here and there.
